This unit is designed to equip students with the essential knowledge and skills required for a career as a construction engineer. It covers key topics critical to the construction industry, including construction methods, intelligent construction, digital modelling, life cycle analysis, and sustainable construction principles, highlighting emerging trends and technologies that are shaping the industry's future. By the end of the unit, students will have developed a solid foundation in digital construction technology and building information modelling, preparing them to manage and contribute to diverse sustainable construction practices. The concepts introduced through lectures, guest lectures and tutorials are reinforced through practical Building Information Modelling (BIM) activities, enabling students to develop and apply essential BIM skills. The BIM Live Build Challenge is a compulsory individual modelling assessment for all students, and attendance is required. For online-enrolled students, the assessment will be conducted in block mode to provide an equivalent hands-on learning and assessment experience.
