This unit considers the theoretical underpinnings of the nature and cause of movement across the lifespan. It enables students to develop analytical and situational skills for utilising motor control information from both a behavioural and physiological perspective. This unit also focuses on the changes in motor function or motor performance that may occur with ageing, injury and fatigue and highlights the interaction existing between motor control and other exercise and sport science disciplines.

Learning Outcomes
Ref
Outcome
1

Explain the physiological basis of motor control, including the roles of sensory systems in regulating movement across the lifespan.

2

Apply theoretical perspectives and principles of motor learning and control to design or choose evidence-based assessments for the evaluation of motor abilities and performance.

3

Assess coordination, somatosensory, visual, cognitive/perceptual impairments in individuals using common assessment methods in a laboratory setting and analyse results.

4

Integrate knowledge of neural control systems and motor control theory to analyse fine and gross motor performance, interpret assessment data, and justify evidence-informed strategies to enhance movement function.

5

Critically evaluate the effects of neurological dysfunction due to ageing, injury, and fatigue on motor performance using evidence-informed principles of motor control.

FedTASK

Federation University recognises that students require key transferable employability skills to prepare them for their future workplace and society. FedTASKs (Transferable Attributes Skills and Knowledge) provide a targeted focus on five key, transferable Attributes, Skills, and Knowledge that are embedded within curriculum, developed gradually towards successful measures and interlinked with cross-discipline and co-operative learning opportunities.
