This unit develops advanced paramedic competence in pre-hospital pharmacology, clinical decision-making, and the safe application of intervention strategies within scope of practice. Students will apply pharmacological principles to pre-hospital drug interventions by examining indications, contraindications, precautions, likely side effects, and expected onset times. Emphasis is placed on professional accountability and autonomy, enabling students to justify paramedic actions and decisions in dynamic pre-hospital environments. Students will further consolidate safe, effective, and competent performance of advanced clinical skills through structured simulated clinical practice. The unit also covers the safe and proficient operation of essential ambulance equipment, including cardiac monitoring, oxygen delivery, and stretcher management. Learners will integrate anatomy and physiology with clinical assessment and intervention to support evidence-based pre-hospital care. Guided by clinical practice guidelines and relevant interstate clinical practice guidance, students will apply Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs)/ Clinical Work Instructions (CWIs) to determine and justify the importance of recommended assessments and treatments for a range of pre-hospital presentations. Successful completion equips graduates with the knowledge and practical skills required to deliver high-quality, guideline-informed, and safe advanced pre-hospital care.
