Course overview

The Bachelor of Information Technology (Professional Practice) is Federation's premier co-operative degree, with a long history of providing students with successful placements with key industry partners including IBM®, and more recently Kyndryl and Westpac. Choose your study path, including subjects such as Mainframe (a specialised area only offered by a select number of universities worldwide), Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Business Analysis, Cybersecurity, and Software Engineering. Through the degree you'll also become job-ready through our career development units, and complete 1600 hours of paid industry placement through one of our selected industry partners.

Applicants are required to have met the minimum academic requirements: <ul><li>Successful completion of Australian Year 12, or overseas equivalent.</li></ul><ul><li>Equivalent of Units 3 and 4: A study score of at least 20 in any English</li><li>Equivalent of Units 1 and 2: Satisfactory completion in two units (any study combination) of Maths: General Mathematics, Maths: Mathematical Methods, Maths: Specialist Mathematics or Units 3 and 4: Satisfactory completion in any Mathematics</li></ul>

Applicants are requested to provide supplementary information to support their application as listed below. Interview An in-person or online meeting with one or more course representative to discuss your suitability for the course. <ul><li>Interview with a panel comprising industry partner/s and University representatives is required prior to acceptance into the course. Acceptance into the course is based on availability of internship positions. Some internship roles are limited based on citizenship.</li></ul>

Essential requirements prior to enrolment

Complete 360 credit points comprising:

120 credit points from Core Units, and
75 to 90 credit points for one Major from Majors, and
45 to 60 credit points from Elective Units, and
75 credit points from Co-Operative Learning Units, and
30 credit points from Capstone Project Units

Selected units must include at least 60 credit points at level 3000.
Selected units must include at most 150 credit points at level 1000.

Exclusion / suspension

Students are expected to obtain satisfactory results in each unit for which they enrol. Students who fail to do so in more than one unit, or have unsatisfactory progress in two consecutive terms, or have unsatisfactory professional performance will be asked to show cause why they should not be excluded from the course. Unless a satisfactory response is received by the relevant Academic Progress Committee the student may be excluded from the course for a period of up to two years.

Final unit supplementary assessment

Students who receive an MF grade in their final Semester may apply to the Course Coordinator within 7 days of the publication of results for supplementary assessment if that unit is the only outstanding unit required to complete the degree and the student has not been found guilty of any form of academic misconduct (e.g. plagiarism, contract cheating, collusion) in that Semester. The highest grade attainable will be a Pass grade.
